Cleveland
(TN) Speedway (5/18/2013) --- Richmond Indiana's Steve Casebolt dominated Saturday
nights 36th annual Johnston Coca-Cola Tennessee Memorial Southern All-Star race
at Cleveland Speedway. The D&R Motorsports "Snow-King" #C9 "Hicks
& Ingle, B&MConcrete, Port City Racing, Arizona Sports Shirts, American
Racer" sponsored MasterSbilt / Cornett powered racer not only held off former
D&R pilot Ray Cook for the $4,000 payday, but outlasted MotherNature whom
threatened rains all around the Tennessee Valley area Saturday.
Its
just teamwork. You know, Im the same driver Ive always been. Im
not any better, I dont feel like Im any worse, said Casebolt,
who fought off challenges from former D&R Motorsports driver Ray Cook for
the victory. Ive just got a good group of guys that are willing to
work with me and its just racing. Everybody thinks its all the driver,
but its not. Youve gotta have a good team behind you and Ive
struggled to have good experienced guys with me in the past with my own car, and
every time when I get with a team that has good guys and surround myself with
good people, we normally have good performances.
Cook attempted
several advances on Casebolt after gaining second place on a restart by overpowering
polesitter Billy Ogle Jr. Consi Winner William Thomas was the hard charger, making
the drive from his 9th starting position to pass under Ogle for 3rd a few laps
later. Randy Weaver, Ogle and Thomas battled three-wide for 3rd for several laps. The
reigning S.A.S champion Weaver was never a factor in the equation and would finish
a solid 4th with Ogle narrowly holding off Ivedent Lloyd Jr for a Top-5 finish.
Mike Weeks won the nights other consi. and would finish 10th overall. I
knew he was close because my crew guys were signaling me. Luckily enough they
signaled me to make the right move at the right time on the racetrack, so we kind
of kept him at bay, Casebolt said. I saw him poke his nose underneath
of me a couple of times. I think when I got up there on that top and had that
momentum rolling around, at this place, its just really hard to pass a guy
that can keep a straight line up there on that top.
In
other divisional action Rick Hixson won the LLM (Steel-head)
race after Aaron Wilson refused to teardown for a post-race
inspection. Crossville, TN's Brett Wyatt won the Crate
LM feature. "Peebo" Glen Seaton III won the A-Hobby feature. Johnny
Hughes win the B-Hobby race. Michael Courtney lapped the field and won the Pony
feature and Daniel Burnette won the FWD race.
