Lil' John Ownbey. Craig Burrows (# 23) of Chickamagua, GA dominated the Crate
LM feature in his "Tony Burrows Construction" racecar over, Jimmy Elliott,

Cleveland,
TN (4/6/2013) --- Kevin Gibson (# M45) of Ringgold, GA chopped down the competition
at the Cleveland Speedway, Saturday night in an early April Show-down for Steel-head
LLM's. The driver known as AXE held off late race challenges from Rick Hixson
after taking the lead from the Cat-Birds Seat at the start of the 25-lap Late
Model feature. Gibson in his solid black "Tennessee Roofing Co, Benrton Oil"
sponsored racecar lead from flag to flag in a caution marred affair, that saw
Hixson lose second place on the white flag lap to former Track Champion Dewayne
Powell, then spin-out in turn three coming to the checkered flag. Behind Gibson
and Powell was Lil' John Ownbey, Jerry Coffman and Bryan Pritchard. Fast qualifier
of 21-cars was Ethan Hunter, who would fail to start his heat race and was behind
the eight-ball the rest of the night. In the Crate feature Lamar Scoggins (# 27)
of Georgetown, TN dominated the 20 lapper. Jimmy Elliott, Bobby Richey Jr, Brandon
Williams and Patrick Duggan followed across the finish line. Robbie Greene (#
00) of Georgetown, TN won his second consecutive A-Hobby feature. "Peebo"
Glen Seaton III would've liked to have had a few more laps after tracking down
the leader from as far back as fifth place. Jimmy Brown, Greg Greene and Eric
Hughes were third thru fifth. Patrick Wilson (# 72) of Chattanooga, TN dominated
by a half-track the B-Hobby feature, Michael Courtney (# C11) of Knoxville, TN
won the Pony feature and Daniel Burnette (# 3) of Chattanooga won the FWD feature.

Cleveland,
TN (3/16/2013) --- Ethan Hunter from Tiger, GA picked up an impressive victory
Saturday night at Cleveland Speedway driving one of Brian Pritchard's "BiG

19 restart challenge by former track champion Lil John Ownbey for his first win

Carburators" into A-1 Towing Victory Lane. Last weekends winner Lamar Scoggins
was 3rd followed by Bobby Mayse and Rick Hixson. The Crate LM's saw John Cobb
of Louden, TN narrowly hold off Chris Wilson coming off of turn-4 to the checkered

a last ditch effort but came up a half a cars length short at the start/finish
line. Kevin Gill, Jimmy Elliott and Brandon Williams finished 3rd thru 5th. Robbie
Greene took an impressive win holding off 18yo. second generation racer Brandon
Stanfield for the A-Hobby feature win. The "Nature Boy" Chris Beavers

CLEVELAND,
Tenn.(3/09/2013) -- In what can only be described as a Heavyweight Championship
SlugFest, reigning Southern All-Star series champion Randy THE DREAM Weaver KO'd
the competition to win the $10,000 first place prize for the 18th annual ShamRock
Saturday night at Cleveland Speedway. The top-4 competitors stood toe-to-toe for
much of the 50-lap "A" Main feature, racing literally wheel to wheel.
They pitched sliders on one another lap after lap, until Weaver edged away from
the pack taking the race caution free in just under a 13 minutes time.In the end
early race leader and two-time ShamRock champion Dale McDowell would fall to 4th,
as mid race leader Billy Ogle Jr. salvaged his second top-3 finish of 2013. The
only one of the top-4 sluggers to not lead a lap was 8th starting Mike Marlar
whom finished 2nd, to the new and back to back Gobbler/ShamRock winner Weaver.
David Payne was outta the bout but ran 5th to the lead broud, ahead of Ray Cook,
Clint Smith, Eric Wells, Jake Knowles and Jonathan Davenport. In preliminaries
Jimmy Owens out clocked the field of 38 other S.A.S. Super Late Models, setting
a new track record of 12:756. The previous record (12:813) was held by Dale McDowell,
set at the Turkey Rumble event held in 2009.
by: Chris Tilley (S.A.S)
In
a caution-free roughly twelve minute main event, Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN
showed why he is the defending Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series Champion
by claiming his first Shamrock 50 event win at Cleveland, TN worth $10,000.
Weaver, along with defending SAS Blue/Gray
100 winner Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN and former SAS Champion Billy Ogle Jr.
made the SHOW by swapping the lead multiple times, while the lap leaders in the
final stats wasnt indicative of how good the race actually was, the fans
sure saw a great one on a cool spring evening. Weaver came to victory lane in
the Precision One Trailer Parts, Outlaw Race Parts, The Bailey Company and VP
Race Fuels sponsored Cornett Racing Engines powered GRT Race Car.

HICKMAN DOMINATES $3,000 LLM JIMMY MOWERY RACE
Cleveland,
TN (10/13/12) --- A stout compilation of over 100 racecars signed in for the TOPLESS
SHOWDOWNs / PONY STAMPEDE weekend Saturday afternoon
at Cleveland Speedway. The Limited Late Models were the top card of night, with
32 raceteams signing in for the 48 lap, $3,000 to-WIN JIMMY MOWERY MEMORIAL feature.
Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, TN led the entire event, after setting second fast-time
in qualifying, for the "A" Main Feature. The driver known as "The
Hustler" put his #R1 "Hickman Manufacturing, American Billett, Austin
Trucking, Tucker Mobile Home Service, MRC" sponsored racecar in the "CAT-BIRDS
SEAT" with a 13:806 time just 5 one-thousandths slower than overall fast
qualifier Brandon Williams. Bobby Mayse kept second place in check for the entire
race with Tod Hernandez battling to third. Williams had disaster strike on the
final lap when Jimmy Elliott stalled his ride in turn three, coming to the checkers.
Somehow the Top-3 missed Elliott, but Williams (in 4th) crashed hard into the
Cleveland local racer destroyning both machines. Toccoa, GA's Ethan Hunter and
Lamar Scoggins of Georgetown, TN rounded out the Top-5 finishers.
Twenty,
Pony's signed in for the STACEY McALISTER MEMORIAL race paying $1,027 to-WIN.
The aforementioned Jimmy Elliott pulling double duty held the top spot and survived,
the 20-lap feature. Jamie Cross pocketed the $500 second place prize to go along
with his two previous victories. J.J. Garrett, Rocky McNabb and points leader
Danny Burnette rounded out the Top-5. In the special Topless Crate LM feature
Brett Wyatt of Crossville, TN passed race leader Jerry Coffman in the waning laps
of the 30-lap $1,200 to-WIN race. Coffman and second place finisher John Cobb
got together late in the race sending Coffman to the rear. Local favorite Bobby
Richey Jr. of Ringgold, GA finished third, just ahead of Bobby Mayse and Rick
Hixson. Robbie Green won the A-Hobby feature, Jonathan Sims took the B-Hobby feature
and Derrick Forgey wrapped up the night with the FWD feature win, The racing season
is winding down and the next race will be Saturday October, 27th for the season

OUTLAW BOOGER BROOKS DOMINATES A-HOBBY TOPLESS 30
Cleveland,
TN (9/22/12) --- The Outlaw known as Booger Brooks (# 148) of Chattanooga, rode
into Cleveland Speedway Saturday nighta swiped away the $1,000 cold hard cash
prize for the 2nd Outlaw Nation Topless 30 for A-Hobby cars. Despite making 2012
his rookie Late Model season the former A-Hobby standout was allowed to pull double
duty, racing both his LLM/Crate racecar and his A-Hobby ride on the same night.
Robbie Greene made a race of it, holding off Brooks for the first nine laps, battling
side by side for the lead. Brooks held consistant at the bottom of the track and
set sail for the remainder 2/3's of the 30 lapper. Brooks was fastest qualifier
of the race that drew 18 cars and also won his heat, but the invert negated him
a row-2 start for the feature. Greene kept Brooks in his sights but that was all,
as Caleb Patton rounded out the Top-3 finishers. Devin Stuart was the races hard
charger winning a bonus $50, while heat #2 runner-up Jordan Rodabaugh earned the
hard luck award when he failed to start, due to mechanical problems. Mitch Brady
Jr. whom stepped up and gave away a pair of bicycles to two lucky kids took home
the best appearing car award as voted by the fans but finished a dismul 10th in
the feature. Last weekends winner Jody Hixson was 4th with Stuart charging to

OGLE
JR. FENDS OFF TARHEEL TIGER WINS GRANT ADCOX RACE
The
reigning Southern All-Star series champion Billy Ogle Jr. (# 201) of Knoxville,
TN earned a hard fought victory over Ray Cook Saturday night at the Willkomm Family's
Cleveland Speedway. The Blount Motorsports "Arnold Trucking, Bearden Oil
Co., Blount Excavating, Cherokee Millwright, GEO Services, Insurance Partners,
Massey Electric, Stowers CAT Machinery, Wine & Spirits Cellar" sponsored
Rocket / Custom Race Engines racer held on as a last lap tango brought the fans
to their feet for the 23rd Grant Adcox Memorial race finish...
After
settling for a number of runner-up finishes during the first half of the season,
Ogle isn't having any troubles finding his way to victory lane during the second
half of the year, driving to his fourth consecutive victory Saturday night for
a $3,500 victory in the third-mile oval
Ogle,
earned his second S.A.S series victory of the season in topping Cook and Derek
Ellis of Chatsworth, Ga., at the finish. Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., was
fourth with Skip Arp of Georgetown, Tenn., rounding out the race?s top five finishers.
Starting from the pole, Ogle outdueled Cook of Brasstown, NC, with bold move to
the high side entering turn one on the race's opening lap. Ogle then took control
in the early laps while Cook fell back to fourth. Ellis and Mark Douglas of Knoxville,
Tenn., initially gave chase to Ogle
but were unable to match the leaders torrid
pace. However, the resolute Cook quickly stormed
back into contention, grabbing third from Douglas on lap three then taking second
from Ellis on the fifth circuit.
In
short order, Cook closed to the rear spoiler of Ogle's car but his charge was
interrupted on lap eight when a caution flag waved for two
unrelated accidents
that occurred at the same time. Series points leader Randy Weaver of Crossville,
Tenn., and Brett Miller of Greenville,
Tenn., banged off of one another as
they each tried to avoid another car in turn four while hometown driver Lamar
Scoggins and Brian Hickman of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., came together on the back straightaway.
Miller was forced to retire from the event but Weaver
continued after multiple stops to receive repairs during the caution period. The
cars of Scoggins and Hickman were heavily damaged and would be unable to continue.
The two drivers were uninjured but did pause to exchange some heated words before
heading to the pit area.
Once
the race resumed, so did the battle for the lead as Cook drew near to Ogle on
multiple occasions only to lose ground shortly after. But a lap-31 yellow flag
allowed Cook another chance to make his move for the top spot. Ogle
got away briefly after the green flag again came out but Cook reeled him back
in. Finally on the last lap, Cook was able to pull briefly alongside out of turn
two. But Ogle used the high line to power away on the backstretch and drive on
to the win. In other racing action Hickman went on
30-mins later and collected the $1,200 LLM/Crate special event of the night. Lee
Harbin won the Hobby feature, Jody Hixson won the A-Hobby race and Cleveland's
Jamie Cross won a shortened Pony feature. FWD's didn't race and will have double
features next weekend.

BILLY
OGLE JR DOMINATES JEAN JOHNSON MEMORIAL S.A.S RACE
CLEVELAND,
TN (8/18/12)- Reigning series champion Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., led
all 40 laps Saturday at Cleveland Speedway to capture the 22nd Budweiser: Jean
Johnson Memorial and his first Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory of
the season. Ogle earned $3,500 in the # 201 Blount Motorsports, Rocket sponsored
by Arnold Trucking, Bearden Oil Company, Blount Excavating, Cherokee Millwright,
GEOServices, Insurance Partners, Massey Electric, Stowers (CAT) Machinery Corp.,
& Wine and Spirits Cellaras turning back a host of challengers at the third-mile
oval.
"My
biggest thing when I was out there out front, I didn?t know where I needed to
run," said Ogle, who stretched a personal winning streak to two after a win
a week earlier at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. "And I was
kind of moving around top to bottom. I finally decided
on keeping it at the
top towards the end. I think that's what was causing me some problems, moving
around too much, and losing time that
way. I did have a feeling somebody was
close to me ... I just felt it.I?m glad to get it over with, because I thought
my car was slippingthere at one point."
Alabama's
Dingus Griffin, local favorite Skip Arp and S.A.S current points leader Randy
Weaver were among drivers who tried to unseat Ogle from the top spot.
"That's
what I was trying to do, get myself a little bit of a cushion and get away from
that hornet's nest, and get up through some lapped
cars," Ogle said. "But
when I got to the back of the lapped cars "a few of ?em pulled out for me
"but then the ones that weren't pulling out, I was struggling to get around
him. I think that?s what hurt me a lot, too, as far as letting them close up on
me. I'm just glad we held on to
the end."
Weaver,
of Crossville, Tenn., finished second from his 12th starting spot with Arp, of
Georgetown, Tenn., in third. Johnny Chastain of
Murphy, N.C., and Alexandria,
AL's Griffin rounded out the top five finishers. Ogle
jumped into the lead at the outset and built a sizable advantage, but once outside
Griffin took the second spot from Greg Martin, he began applying pressure to the
lead after 15 laps were complete. Griffin peeked
underneath Ogle a few times as the frontrunners faced traffic while Martin, Jacob
Grizzle and Arp gave chase.
A
lap-22 caution for the slowing car of William Thomas gave the field an opportunity
to catch its collective breath and prepare for the second half of the race. On
the restart, Griffin and Martin faded a bit while Weaver and Arp emerged as Ogle?s
most serious challengers. Arp went for the lead on lap 28, but that opened the
door for Weaver to take the second spot. The race's second and final caution came
on lap 37 when Shan Smith blew an engine, setting up a three-lap dash to the finish.
Ogle stuck with his high groove and kept Weaver in
check over the final laps for the victory..

MADDEN
BRINGS THE SOUTHERN NATIONALS T-N-T
Chris
Madden made it clear Thursday night that he doesnt plan on coasting to his
fourth Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series championship. With a 30-point lead
over Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., entering the 10-race tours three-race
homestretch, Madden did anything but take it easy at Cleveland Speedway.
Instead, Madden, 37, of Gray Court, S.C., led every lap of the Thursdays
35-lap feature, turning back early challenges from Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville,
Tenn., before running away to his third victory on this years tour and padding
his points lead as the series heads for its final two races over the weekend.
Madden earned $3,500 in topping Ogle at the finish line. Marlar advanced from
his ninth starting spot to finish third ahead of 11th-starting Randy Weaver of
Crossville, Tenn., and Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, Ga.
Starting from
the outside of the front row, Madden in his #44 Century Plastics, Hamricks
of Gaffney, VP Fuels, Allstar Performance, Extreme Cycles and Hoosier Tire South
sponsored Bloomquist chassis powered by a Clements Automotive Racing bolted to
the lead on the races initial start, but he was soon challenged heavily
by Ogle in the opening laps. Ogle dove under Madden on a couple of occasions in
an attempt to take the lead before the races first caution on lap nine slowed
the pace.
Madden flexed his muscle after the restart, leaving Ogle and
the rest of the field to battle for second. Ogle held on to the spot as hard chargers
Marlar and Randy Weaver moved up through the field. All of the races four
cautions appeared during the first 18 laps, allowing
Madden and the other
leaders to stay out of lapped traffic for most of the race. As the race ran green
in the second half, however, Madden found himself having to slice through the
tail of the field in the closing laps. But the veteran driver was able to always
keep at least one or two lapped machines between himself and his closest pursuers
in racing to the victory.

..................................PHOTO's
from www.MIKESSPORTSIMAGES.com........................................
The racetrack was really good tonight and kinda had two lanes there. I seen
Billy under me a time or two and had to turn up the wick a little bit, Maddens
said of his early battle with Ogle. But it was all good. The race car was
great. Marlar, who has two victories of his own on this years tour,
intentionally set his car up to run the bottom, but he ran out of time to catch
the leaders. We had a good car, just not all night, Marlar said. (Running
the bottom) was really the only option I had so we just over-tightened the car
where I could bend it and do whatever I needed to do. We actually might the right
call. It was just one of them shorter distance races and you gotta start a little
closer some times.

B OOGER's BUNCH.... BURNETTE TAKES PONY CHAMPIONSHIP

Cleveland,
TN June 30, 2012 - It was a scortcher of a day, to borrow a term from an
East TN sister-track, but Cleveland Speedway weathered, the over 100 degree temps
bringing the Pony Mid Season Championship to life for the ones deciding to brave
the heat. As advertised it came down to Danny Burnette and Grady Stokes in a Tennessee
vs Georgia battle-brawl for the $500 top prize. In the end, after a lengthy 2-hour
delay Mr. Chattown Radiator took his #4 machine back to the winners circle for
his 5th trip this season to A-1 Towing Victory Lane for the Burnette Racing Team.
In the LLM/Crate division, leading Rookie of the Year continder Booger Brooks
of Chattanooga, held off invader Jason Cardwell of Knoxville for his career 1st
Late Model win. Booger has been the dominate force for years in the A-Hobby class,
but this season he has teamed up with Scott Ohms to start his LM career. Booger's
Bunch had a little assistance as power-steering problems plagued the team in qualifying
and heat race action. Fellow racer Tyler Adams gave up some goods after a crash
knocked him from action and the parts allowed the OHMS Racing #74 "Harrison
Transmission, Truck Service Co, Chubby's BBQ, Jason Neely's Race to Cure Parkinson's,
Base Racing Fuel, Crusader's Racing, RV Park Palace" sponsored GRT / Crate
GM 604 to pull away in the feature. Lee Harbin and Jody Hixson are still terrorizing
the Hobby and A-Hobby divisions, with Harbin his 2nd consecutive win and Hixson
his 3rd in a row hat-trick victory. Tanner Tyler won the Cruisers feature. Cleveland
Speedway is taking next Saturday 7/7 off to do vacationing with family, but the
Southern All-Stars invade the following weekend with a Huge Fireworks Show for
the Stars N' Stripes Race on 7/14.

ReD MACHiNE PRITCHARD WINS... FORGEY TAKES FWD COIN
Cleveland, Tenn (5/5/12)
Mild-Mannered School Bus Driver, Brian Pritchard of Harrison, Tennessee
and his Big Red Machine put a end to Jason Welshan's win streak Saturday night
at the Cleveland Speedway, winning the 30 lap LLM/Crate "A" Main feature
race. After a horrible previous week of action, the #3 "Ron's Car Wash of
Ooltewah, George Shaw Racing, Steven Hogan Racing, Gann, Roofing, Spangler Sheet
Metal, Hoosier Tire, Pritchard Racing" sponsored MasterSbilt / GM Performance
604 Bill Hendren powered machine would stomp into the lead from the get-go and
remain the chasee' til the checkers flew. It wasn't all smooth sailing in making
the trip to the KC Graphics/R.E.D Victory Lane, on the special Kid's Coin Night
sponsored by J&R Coin Shop in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. "Welshan's was on
me really strong and even drew along side me once or twice. The track's been really
good and slick and we did the right thing Saturday afternoon by swapping motors."
stated Pritchard after the race. Pritchard's Hogans Hero's Gang worked all day
Saturday preparring the car. From Bud, Benny, Steven, Scottie and J.C., Kyle to
Dustin and Josh and his wife Shelley and daughter Meagan everyone chipped in hole-heartedly.
Pritchard earned a $900 payday + the $100 (Crate) bonus for his first win of the
season. Behind Welshan was leading Rookie contender Booger Brooks in third, while
former track champion Lil' John Ownbey and James Gamble rounded out the Top-5
finishers. Next weekend look for Pritchard and his Red-Raiders to be at Cleveland
Saturday night for the annual Southern All-Star series TENNESSEE MEMORIAL race,
vying for the $1,200 to-WIN special 30 lap LLM/Crate feature.

WELSHAN
HANDLES AX..... DEJA VU WITH SPOOKY 6th VICTORY
Cleveland,
TN (4/28/12) --- Deja vu??? Well kinda... Certainly Jason Welshan of Maryville,
Tennessee and the FLYIN' WELSHAN BRIGADE must be having this "experience
of a current situation, even though the exact circumstances of a prior encounter"
since the worn green/black #29 Hidden Hollow Motorsports car dubbed "Spooky"
has racked up "back to back to back to back" victories in the past two
weeks. Saturday night Welshan in his "B&M Concrete, Competition Racing
Equipment, Ronald Sexton Construction, Centerline Construction, Bearden Oil, Hicks
& Law Insurance, Jon's Golf-Carts, Smith's Auto Repair, Schenfeld Headers,
Stealth Racing Carburators, Outlaw Graphix, Harrison Concrete, Bob Cat of Knoxville/Chattanooga,
The Half-Barrel, Bearden Fieldhouse, Shorty Shocks Service, Mighty Muffler, Bakers
Transmission" sponsored MasterSbilt / Bill Bunch powered Cindy & Roger
Kerr, Gary Rolfe owned machine took another flag to flag 30 lap Late Model feature
as the 2012 FULL THROTTLE Points began at Cleveland Speedway. Welshan had to shake
off Fast Qualifier Jimmy Elliott at the start and then keep, previous winner The
Ax Kevin Gibson from chopping an end to his winning streak that stands at 4 in-a-row
and 6 overall this season. Unfortunately for Elliott the night wouldn't end like
it began as Jimmy "J" and "The Big Red Machines" Brian Pritchard
would crash and collect Jerry Coffman. Behind Gibson was former Track Champion
Lil' John Ownbey, The Man in Black James Gamble and Tanner Works. "I get
real fired-up when the team is like this... Makes me get-up on the wheel and drive
even harder" stated Welshan after
the race. Fans wishing to follow the team, can look up Jason Welshan Racing on

WELSHAN
DOUBLE's DOWN WITH SATURDAY VICTORY.....
Cleveland,
TN (4/21/12) --- Officials with Cleveland (TN) Speedway will be rethinking their
idea on offering a DOUBLE DOWN bonus between itself and its sister track Boyd's
Speedway in Ringgold/Chattanooga. This weekend Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tennessee
followed the suit of Kevin Gibson last weekend completing back to back victories
at the two tracks when he won the 30-lap LLM/Crate feature. The FLYIN' WELSHAN
BRIGADE pulled into victory lane after a dog-fight of a battle with Tod Hernandez
in the early stages of the feature. Unfortunately Hernandez runner-up finish would
be nullified when he refused a post-race protest from Fast-Qualifier/third place
finisher Justin Litchford. The LITCHMOB would settle for second at the pay window
with Lil' John Ownbey rounding out the Top-3.
The Hidden Hollow Motorsports #29 "B&M
Concrete, Competition Racing Equipment, Ronald Sexton Construction, Centerline
Construction, Bearden Oil, Hicks & Law Insurance, Jon's Golf-Carts, Smith's
Auto Repair, Schenfeld Headers, Stealth Racing Carburators, Outlaw Graphix, Harrison
Concrete, Bob Cat of Knoxville/Chattanooga, The Half-Barrel, Bearden Fieldhouse,
Shorty Shocks Service, Mighty Muffler, Bakers Transmission" sponsored MasterSbilt
/ Bill Bunch powered Cindy & Roger Kerr, Gary Rolfe owned racecar touted the
Front Row Joe starting honors along with Hernandez and followed the heat #2 winner
for almost 12 circuits. Welshan wrestled the lead from the #T6 machine as small
cautions waved over the next 18 laps for Tyler Adams, Michael Arp a few others.
The win marks #4 on the 2012 season coming at three diffenent tracks. Fans
wishing to follow the team, can look up Jason Welshan Racing on the social media

OPENS UP CLEVELAND's 58th SEASON WITH S.A.S VICTORY
Cleveland, TN (4/7/12) ---
The 58th racing season of the Cleveland (TN) Speedway opened up Saturday night
to the roar of a huge crowd of spectators as well as competitors for the delayed
annual running of the Southern All-Star SHAMROCK race. At the conclusion of the
50-lap $10,000 to-WIN "A" Main event for Super Late Models, THE NEWPORT
NIGHTMARE Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN in his #20 "Reece Monument Company,
Gantte Appraisals and Red Line Oil" sponsored Bloomquist Team Zero / Cornett
Thunder powered racecar prevailed over 28 other raceteams from around the region.
The 40-yr old, collected his first checkered flag of the season at Cleveland,
in whats become like a second home, where he's been building a steady stream of
"O-SHOW" fans in the Tennessee Valley.
"It's
been a pretty rough season... a good season, but a rough season, and we finally
got our first win of the year, and I'm pretty tickled," Owens told a the
crowd in Victory Lane after capturing the victory. "The track was really,
really racy. In the heats, I was a little bit worried because it was a little
one-laned on the bottom. But it smoothed up and I was able to move around and
get by those guys ... It feels good to get the first victory of the season here."
Polesitter
Dale McDowell of Rossville, Ga., finished second, breaking a personal three-race
winning streak, while reigning S.A.S series champion Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville,
TN, was third. Clint Smith of Senoia, GA., and Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY, rounded
out the Top-5 finishers at the third-mile clay banked oval. The early stages of
the 50-lapper looked as if it would be a tussle with most drivers fighting for
real estate on the bottom and a handful of drivers looking to make the high side
work for them. McDowell shot out to the early lead, but the second-starting Ogle
immediately started working the high side of the track, working into the lead
on the third lap.
After Ogle's
teammate, Tommy Kerr, drew a lap-four caution, Owens went to work on the high
side, taking second from McDowell. Owens then set his sights on Ogle. Owens and
Ogle ran side-by-side for a number of laps before Owens finally grabbed the lead
on the 12th circuit. Owens built a straightaway lead over Ogle by the halfway
point, an advantage erased for Skip Arp's turn-three spin. On the restart, Owens
once again pulled away from the field. McDowell got back around Ogle for second.
Ogle then found himself in a battle for Smith for the third spot while Owens was
out front alone.
"We were
too loose," runner-up McDowell said. "We were pretty good in the heat
race, and we just didn't change enough to tighten up. So hat's off to Jimmy and
those guys. He had the car to beat and we'll just take note and come back next
time and try it again." Ogle was strong early on the high side but couldn't
hold off Owens, who made the winning pass exiting turn four. "I started running
the top and I could feel it coming on, and I got the lead there," Ogle said.
"It just seemed like I started slipping a little bit after that. I just could
touch the gas pedal like I was. I was having to really baby it and started pushing
a little. But you know, I'm happy to get third. If you'd have asked me before
the night started if I'd have taken a top-three, I sure would've."

LAMAR SCOGGINS TAKES ANOTHER 2012
OPENER @ CLEVELAND
Cleveland,
TN (4/07/2012) --- A week after taking the North GA 2012 Season Opener, Lamar
Scoggins of Georgetown, TN returned to his home track in Cleveland, TN to claim
the LLM/Crate $1,500 prize Saturday night at Cleveland Speedway. The Late Model
Veteran is a WILD-DEUCE now winning back-to-back features and there could be no
end in sight as the "M&S Motors, Chattanooga Auto Auction, Chambers Equipment
Sales, Bodies by Rick Hixson Fabrication" GRT / Race Engine Design powered
team could start a domination streak. Scoggins was locked into Saturday's feature
setting Fast Time (14:30) over an almost 30 car field. Scoggins who's winless
so far in a pair of events at nearby Boyd's Speedway in Chattanooga, could set
his sights on next Friday's Steelhead LM feature, where he's been a top runner
on a regular basis. Cherry Log, GA's Shannon Bearden (also #32) has given Scoggins
alot of competition and that was the case Saturday at Cleveland
